Youth Activities

Youth Guitar Beginner (Ages 5 & Up)

Children will learn the basics from the beginning while they work their way up with the help of illustrated song books created by a trained teacher. Classes are held in a group setting and students will learn a variety of different song selections from the instructor. Bring your own guitar to class.

French (pour les enfants) Ages 5-9

Game It Up – Ultimate Video Game Experience (Ages 8-13)

Video gaming has never been so much fun. Game It Up, LLC is a mobile video game experience for up to 16 people, offering a series of Group Gaming Sessions for children to explore the world of gaming with same age peers. They will battle, race, jam and compete, while increasing social skills, sharpening visual and fine-motor skills, and learning to work well in groups and teams. Why sit at home and game alone when you can come out and meet other kids with similar gaming interests? This three hour session will include a free hat, varied and friendly video game competitions, and various treats and prizes. Game It Up – Ultimate Video Game Tournament (Ages 8-13)

If you are a Madden Pro and you think you can play with the best, join us with up to 32 other pros for your chance at football glory. Games will be one-on-one and consist of two minute quarters. In the case of an odd number of players, the top player or players in a round my receive a bye to the next round. The final four players will play a championship game and a consolation game to determine the final finishing order. The session includes a free hat for everyone. First place through third place will receive a small trophy or medal, while first and second place will also receive a t-shirt, and first place will get the free party at their home on a date of their choice. Rock 'N' Roll University (Ages 8-18)

Rock 'N' Roll University is an eight week, one hour per week, band format Rock class. Registered students of similar age and ability will be brought together by members of our expert teaching staff and taught a minimum of two popular songs and one original to be performed in front of an audience. The concert performance will be held approximately one week after graduation at Shark City. Each student will be given a graduation professionally recorded CD of their original song on the eighth week of rehearsals and a free Perry's Rock 'N' Roll University T-shirt. A professionally recorded live DVD of the graduation performance will be available for sale two weeks after the concert performance. We have a limited number of Sunday classes so spots will fill up quickly. Please sign up early to assure you will be a part of this wonderfully fun and educational class. No refunds will be issued after class starts. No Classes on 7/17, 9/4 and 9/11.

Magic for Beginners (Ages 5-12)

Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind reading and more. This class teaches you easy ways to perform new tricks. Red Cross Babysitters Training Class (Ages 11–15)

American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course is to provide individuals with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid.

Chess Camp (Ages 6–12)

Let your children out of the house this summer break with chess wizards; they can play games, make new friends, and spend the day with us having fun! What to expect: An array of games and activities throughout the day led by the most energetic members of our staff. Each child will also receive a Chess Board; which all of their new friends can sign on the last day of camp. In addition, each child will receive a trophy and the NEW Chess Wizards T-Shirt, plus a folder containing all of the puzzles that they completed at camp.

Camp H2O (Ages 8-12)

Water, water everywhere! This class will introduce your children to the science behind water. Learn about water and how it is formed, what lives in it and all of the different forms it takes on earth. Conduct tests and do experiments with water. This camp will meet at Reskin Park weather permitting and will finish each day at our Aquatic Center where water rules the day! Parents please pack a lunch, swim suit and sun protection. Must have a minimum of 10 campers.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD DO?
A variety of academic enhancement and enrichment activities, indoor and outdoor games, music, and arts and crafts are planned for your child's time in our program.

WHAT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION?
Transportation will be provided by School District 15 and 16. As long as your child attends one of the participating schools, transportation will be included.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Registration must be completed at the Sports Hub located at 250 Civic Center Plaza. You can click here to download the registration packet online. The registration process will not be completed until the completed form is returned to the Sports Hub with payment. Registration begins May 9, 2011.
Space is limited so be sure to register early!

Safety Town Classes (Ages 5-7)

This years' program will consist of five daily classes for children ages 5 through 7 (children must be 5 years of age by the time their first class starts). Topics to be covered are: Pedestrian Safety, Railroad Safety, Fire Safety, Stranger Danger, 911, First Aid, Poisons, Bike Safety and Seat Belts. Maximum class size is limited to 24 students. Glendale Heights and Glenside Fire Protection District pay resident fees. ALL FEES ARE DUE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION.

Junior Police Academy (Ages 11-14)

The Glendale Heights Police Department will be conducting the G.R.E.A.T. summer camp, which offers a diversity of both educational and recreational programs that will enrich the lives of the children involved. The children will be experiencing how to become a police officer in this week long program. Participants will also be involved in other team building recreational activities.
