"Searching for Answers Together"
On September 21, 2000 the Village of Glendale Heights Board passed an ordinance to establish the Glendale Heights Youth Commission, (GHYC). The Commission is comprised of Police and Fire Departments, local elementary and high school districts, local court, business, residents, hospital, and church. One of the Commission's purposes is to provide partnership opportunities for community and service organizations to communicate and interact with young people and their families in positive and meaningful ways.
The Commission meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the Safety Town Schoolhouse. Meetings are open to residents.
Goals
COMMUNICATION
Provide partnership opportunities for community and service organizations to communicate and interact with young people and their families in positive and meaningful ways.
PREVENTION & EDUCATION
Identify prevention and education programs already in place, research new programs and facilitate this implementation based on the needs of the community.
REFERRAL
Identify and publicize available counseling and referral programs and services.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
Facilitate opportunities for our youth that develop positive self-esteem and pride in the community through service through others.
RECREATION & SOCIALIZATION
To support recreational and social opportunities which encourage healthy interactions and positive character life skills.
FUNDING SOURCES
Identify and seek funding opportunities in order to accomplish the goals of the Commission.
