Dear Members of the Glendale Heights Community:

It was a pleasure to see so many of the Glendale Heights residents at the summer socials and festivals this year. The frequent rain storms throughout June and July required us to cancel several of our summer events, but there are still several more coming up this fall. I hope to see you all at International Day on September 19th as we celebrate our community diversity, taste ethnic foods, and enjoy cultural entertainment. You also won’t want to miss Harvest Fest to be held at Heritage Park, (located at Windy Point Drive & Paul Avenue) that includes the annual Fishing Derby, Horse and Carriage Rides, Hayrides, tours of the Historic House, and many other fun activities. You will find the details for these events, as well as others in the September/October Newsletter.

Usually by this time of year, the Village road improvements and capital projects are coming to a close. However, due to the Union strike this summer, our projects have fallen behind schedule and the Village and our contractors are working diligently to complete the long list of community projects before winter sets in. Projects affected by the strike included all of our road improvements and the front entrance of the Civic Center. Your patience over the next several months is needed to successfully complete these projects.

Fortunately, the new Glendale Heights Center for Senior Citizens was completed on time, and I was very happy to see the overwhelming response from the Community and have over 500 people attend the Grand Opening! The building is beautiful and is loaded with a variety of fun things to do, as well as many programs, services, and resources exclusively for adults 60 years old and better! If you are a member of the “Baby Boomer Generation”, please stop by one day and see what it’s all about. The new building is located on the municipal campus adjacent to the Glendale Heights Sports Hub and Civic Center.

As autumn approaches and the leaves begin to fall, the Street Sweeping schedule will go into high gear to keep our local streets and storm sewers clear of debris, which is vital during heavy rain storms. The no parking restriction one day a week is necessary to allow the Village Streets Division to thoroughly sweep both sides of the streets, as well as perform other street and utility maintenance and tree trimming services. While the no parking on local streets one day of week has been well received by a majority of the residents, I realize it has caused a hardship to others who are accustomed to parking on the street at any time. Enforcement of the no parking restriction was delayed to allow extra time to adjust to the new regulations, but strict enforcement is now in effect.

All residents are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly Neighborhood Watch Meetings that are held the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm on the second floor of the Civic Center. At the meetings, the Glendale Heights Police Officers and Code Enforcement Officers are there to listen about concerns that you may have about your neighborhood. Residents are also invited to attend Coffee with the Mayor and Village Board on the first Saturday of every month between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Whether you have a complaint or just want to sit and talk about our community in general, we are here to listen. You can also reach me by telephone at 630.909.5302 or by e-mail at ljackson@glendaleheights.org.

Sincerely,

Linda Jackson Village President
